A group of new white water leaders! Dartmoor UK

Totnes Canoe club approached us to organise a week of white water leader refresher training which included personal skills development, leader skills refreshing with some external learners and a day recapping the necessary safety skills needed for white water. The week gave us great water levels and the group got to explore the River Dart, the Barl and the Tavy. We had a great group of strong candidates who combined their river experience to share knowledge and applied that to be able to run new rivers to them and guide some of our regular learners on some great trips at some exciting water levels. After the first three days of recapping skills, we had two days of assessments. The first day was on the Tavy from Tavistock to Denham Bridge, a lovely 6 mile paddle. An unknown river gave the leaders a chance to scout new rapids. The second day of assessments we were back on the Dart and explored the section above Newbridge, taking the learners on some great drops providing some swims for the leaders to deal with very well.
