If you’re looking to become a Paddlesport Leader, the optional BCAB Paddlesport Leader Training is available to support you in the development of the required skills. In this practical course, you will explore leadership skills and the associated personal skills and safety and rescue skills. You will be supported in identifying an appropriate action plan to support your progress towards a successful assessment. BCAB Paddlesport Leader Training courses typically range from two to five-day programmes, with longer courses giving you more time to practice and develop your skills.

Key components of the course include:

1. Paddling Skills: Participants will develop and refine their paddling skills tailored to calm and sheltered water conditions, including paddle strokes, boat control, and manoeuvring techniques.
2. Safety and Rescue: Emphasis is placed on safety protocols, risk assessment, and incident management specific to sheltered water environments. During paddling excursions, participants will learn essential rescue techniques to ensure their own and others’ safety.
3. Leadership and Group Management: The course focuses on developing effective leadership abilities, communication skills, and group management techniques necessary for leading paddling trips in sheltered water settings.
