Description
The Advanced White Water Kayak Leader course is tailored for proficient paddlers who aspire to hone their leadership skills in demanding white water surroundings. The course intends to augment the participants’ competence to lead groups safely and proficiently on advanced whitewater kayaking expeditions.
Methods of Assessment:
- To obtain the qualification, you must demonstrate competency in the following areas:
- Participant-focused leadership skills
- Personal paddling skills
- Rescue skills
- Underpinning background knowledge, understanding and experience
The Leadership Assessment typically lasts for 1-2 days, depending on the course ratios and logistics related to accessing suitable environments. Once you have completed the Assessment, the course provider will submit successful participants for certification.
Pre-Requisite
Due to the paddling environment and the boat control required to participate in this training course, candidates should be:
- Confident in their ability to paddle on grade 3/4 water
- Confident swimming in normal paddling clothing suitable for a moving water environment
- Hold a White Water Kayak Leader
- Be bge 16+
- Hold a full National Association Membership
- Hold a valid (within 3 years) British Canoeing Awarding Body recognised 2-day First Aid Award
- Hold a valid (within 3 years) Safeguarding Training recognised by British Canoeing Awarding Body
- Hold a Advanced White Water Safety and Rescue Training Safety Award
What You Need to Bring:
- Your Own Kayak (unless agreed to hire)
- Personal paddling clothing and equipment, including suitable footwear for on the water, Buoyancy Aid and Helmet
- Lunch and Drink for both days
- The equipment that you would need to run a trip on the river in an advanced environment.
