Description
The BCAB White Water Leader Assessment course is tailored for proficient paddlers who aspire to hone their leadership skills in white water surroundings. The course intends to augment the participants’ competence to lead groups safely and proficiently while white water kayaking.
Methods of Assessment:
- To obtain the qualification, you must demonstrate competency in the following areas:
- Participant-focused leadership skills
- Personal paddling skills
- Rescue skills
- Underpinning background knowledge, understanding and experience
The BCAB White Water Leader Assessment typically lasts for 1 day, depending on the course ratios and logistics related to accessing suitable environments. Once you have completed the Assessment, the course provider will submit successful participants for certification.
Pre-Requisite
Due to the paddling environment and the boat control required to participate in this training course, candidates should be:
- White Water Kayak Leader training (within 3 years)
- White Water Safety & Rescue training (or Rescue 3 Whitewater Rescue Technician)
- Home Nation Leadership Registration (LR) Form
- Full Home Nation Association Membership
- Valid 2 day First Aid training
- Aged 16 or over
What You Need to Bring:
- Your Own Kayak (unless agreed to hire)
- Personal paddling clothing and equipment, including suitable footwear for on the water, Buoyancy Aid and Helmet
- Lunch and Drink for both days
- The equipment that you would need to run a trip on the river in an white water environment.
